Where it came from
Released in 1985 as part of the Lego Town theme, the TV Camera Crew set 6659-1 captures the aesthetic of mid-eighties television production. It was designed to provide a compact, functional addition to city layouts, reflecting the era's focus on professional service vehicles and broadcast media. The set includes a small van with a roof-mounted camera rig and two minifigures, emphasizing the play value of re-enacting news coverage within a burgeoning Lego city environment.
The design follows the classic Lego Town visual language, utilizing a simple red-and-white color scheme that was iconic for the brand’s utility vehicles during that decade. While the set is modest in piece count, its inclusion of specialized camera equipment and broadcast accessories made it a popular choice for collectors seeking to populate their urban dioramas with realistic occupations. It remains a nostalgic representation of the early modular approach Lego took toward city-building sets.
