Where it came from
The Two Lunar Landing plates were produced in the late 1960s to commemorate the historic Apollo 11 mission. These commemorative ceramics captured the public's fascination with the space race, serving as both household decor and a tangible piece of history for households eager to celebrate the first human steps on the moon.
The design of these plates typically features illustrative renderings of the lunar module and the lunar surface, often utilizing a transfer-ware technique common to the period's souvenir industry. While the specific artists behind these mass-market pieces are rarely credited, they were designed to evoke a sense of national pride and technological wonder, finding a place in many mid-century homes as quintessential keepsakes of the lunar landing era.
