Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the Lego Ninjago theme, Vangelis—represented here as the Skull Sorcerer—originated from the Master of the Mountain wave. This set was designed to bring a darker, subterranean aesthetic to the Ninjago universe, moving away from the typical elemental themes to explore the depths of Shintaro. The minifigure design emphasizes a gothic, skeletal motif, utilizing intricate printing and a unique helmet piece to distinguish him as a primary antagonist within the series.
The character design reflects a shift in Lego’s creative direction toward more detailed, lore-heavy villainy during the latter half of the Ninjago franchise. As a central figure in the 13th season of the television series, the design was developed to evoke a sense of ancient mystery and corrupt authority. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors for its high level of detail and the inclusion of the Skreemer piece, solidifying its place as a standout component of the 2020 Ninjago product cycle.
