Where it came from
The LEGO set 610-1, known as the Mobile Crane, was released in 1975 as part of the Expert Builder series, which would later evolve into the globally recognized Technic line. This set represents a foundational moment in LEGO history, as it was one of the first products to shift the focus from traditional brick-stacking toward more complex, mechanical models that prioritized functionality and structural integrity.
The design of the Mobile Crane was characterized by a utilitarian aesthetic, utilizing standard system bricks and early specialized components to simulate the movement of a construction vehicle. Because it predated the formal introduction of the Technic beam system, the model served as a bridge between the classic creative building style and the sophisticated engineering-based sets that defined the company's output in the subsequent decades.
