Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Legends of Chima Speedorz subtheme, Whirling Vines was designed as a competitive action set. The core mechanic involved a pull-ripcord system that launched a specialized vehicle, known as a Speedor, into a buildable obstacle course. This specific set focused on the character Razcal, a Raven tribe member, tasked with navigating a vine-themed trap to collect CHI crystals, fitting into the overarching narrative of a mystical realm governed by animal factions.
The design of the set leans into the aesthetic of the Chima theme, utilizing organic, plant-like elements to simulate the overgrown jungle environment of the Raven territory. By emphasizing physical play through the ripcord mechanism, the set was intended to offer an interactive experience that moved away from traditional static building. While the Legends of Chima line was eventually retired, these Speedorz sets remain recognized for their experimental approach to blending construction with skill-based miniature gaming.
