Where it came from
The Wicket trading card originates from the expansive merchandise campaign surrounding the 1983 release of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. As the Ewoks were introduced as a pivotal, albeit polarizing, addition to the franchise, trading card manufacturers sought to capture the growing interest in the characters through various collector sets designed for younger audiences and dedicated hobbyists.
The design of this specific card reflects the typical aesthetic of 1980s film tie-in ephemera, featuring a character still shot accompanied by basic biographical details or scene context. While the artwork and layout followed the standardized templates of contemporary Topps or similar hobby sets, the card serves as a tactile record of the marketing strategies employed by Lucasfilm to foster deep attachment to the creatures, emphasizing their role as the brave, diminutive protectors of Endor.
