Where it came from
The LEGO Duplo Wild Animals of Africa set, released in 2022, was designed as part of the brand's commitment to early childhood development, focusing on animal education for children aged two and older. The set was created to provide a tactile, engaging way for toddlers to learn about natural habitats, featuring a playmat and iconic species like a giraffe, elephant, and lion cub.
The design emphasizes chunky, easy-to-grasp components intended to foster fine motor skills and open-ended creative play. By utilizing the larger Duplo scale, the designers aimed to simplify complex natural ecosystems into digestible, durable plastic play pieces that encourage storytelling. Upon its release, it was well-received by parents and educators as an accessible tool for introducing basic biology and environmental appreciation in a safe, age-appropriate manner.
