Ares

Ares, card number 104 in the Whispers in the Well set, functions as a character card within this strategic tabletop series. The set was conceived to expand the game's mythological roster, introducing figures that balanced traditional power mechanics with the thematic gothic aesthetic established by the game's creative direction. It was designed to provide players with a mid-tier offensive option that required careful resource management to deploy effectively.

The visual design for this iteration of Ares was developed to steer away from traditional heroic tropes, instead leaning into a weathered, visceral aesthetic that matched the darker tone of the Whispers in the Well expansion. The artist focused on muted tones and sharp, angular linework to convey a sense of martial decay, reflecting the card's uncommon status and its role as a disruptive force on the board. Upon release, the design was noted by the community for its stylistic departure from the primary set, often praised for its distinct character portraiture.
