Provenance

Where it came from

Dante, card number 208 from the Hyperia City set, emerged during the late nineties as part of a trend of cyberpunk-themed trading card games. The set was conceived by the design team at Aegis Games to anchor their fledgling universe, focusing on a narrative of urban decay and high-stakes corporate espionage. The character, Dante, serves as a central protagonist archetype, depicted as a lone fixer navigating the neon-drenched districts of the titular city.

The visual identity for the card was helmed by lead illustrator Kenji Sato, who utilized a moody, high-contrast digital painting style to emphasize the grit of the setting. Sato aimed to convey a sense of kinetic energy and isolation, choosing a color palette dominated by synthetic purples and deep shadows. Upon its release, the card became a modest success within the secondary market, noted by players for its tactical utility and by collectors for its representative aesthetic of the genre’s design peak.
