Provenance

Where it came from

The Kuzco character card, indexed as number 209 in the Fabled trading card series, serves as a thematic representation of the central protagonist from Disney's 2000 animated feature, The Emperor's New Groove. Developed during a period of transition for Walt Disney Feature Animation, the character was designed to subvert the traditional tropes of the regal hero, trading earnest nobility for a self-absorbed and comedic persona. The visual development of the character relied heavily on the distinct, sharp-angled character designs of Joe Moshier, who aimed to mirror the bold geometry and Incan-inspired aesthetic of the film's artistic direction.

Upon its inclusion in the Fabled collection, the card was produced to appeal to collectors of modern animation history and Disney ephemera. The set as a whole sought to catalog iconic cinematic figures through a stylized lens, emphasizing character personality and iconic poses. Like many items in this series, the Kuzco card was received by the hobbyist community as a nostalgic artifact that captures the specific mid-century modern influence and irreverent storytelling style that defined the film's cult legacy.
