Where it came from
Philoctetes, the legendary trainer of heroes from the 1997 Disney film Hercules, was featured in the initial release of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter in 2023. As a common character card, this piece was designed to introduce players to the game’s core mechanics while celebrating the rich history of Disney’s animation archives, specifically capturing the gruff, mentor-like persona of the character in a functional gaming format.
The card’s illustration follows the visual style established for the inaugural set, which prioritized bringing familiar characters into a cohesive trading card aesthetic. Ravensburger, the game's publisher, worked closely with Disney’s creative teams to ensure that Philoctetes retained his iconic, cantankerous charm. Upon its release, the card became a staple for players building decks focused on the Ruby ink color, known for its emphasis on aggressive tactics and character synergy.
