Abzan Falconer

Abzan Falconer was released in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Khans of Tarkir. It represents the Abzan Houses, a faction on the plane of Tarkir defined by their resilience, endurance, and rigid hierarchical structure. The card serves as a mechanical centerpiece for the faction's signature ability, Outlast, which allows creatures to bolster themselves with +1/+1 counters to gain combat advantages.

The artwork was created by illustrator Lucas Graciano, who focused on the desert-dwelling aesthetic of the Abzan culture. He depicted the Falconer with a traditional, shielded look consistent with the faction's visual identity, emphasizing the armored protection and sand-swept motifs central to the set's world-building. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its efficiency in Limited formats, where providing flying to a team of growing creatures proved to be a highly effective strategy.
