Where it came from
Released in April 2016 as part of the Shadows over Innistrad expansion for Magic: The Gathering, this card represents the return of the gothic horror-themed plane of Innistrad. The design features a double-faced transformation mechanic, depicting a human Witch succumbing to the transformative madness that plagues the set's narrative, evolving into a malevolent spectral curse.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose work on this piece emphasizes the grotesque transformation inherent to the set's Eldritch influence. The piece was well-received by players for its thematic integration of flavor and mechanics, effectively capturing the feeling of a lingering, persistent threat that transcends physical form.
