Where it came from
Aetherspouts was originally printed as a rare in the Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2015, designed as a powerful control tool for blue decks. The card functions as a board wipe for attacking creatures, allowing a player to protect themselves by returning attackers to the top or bottom of their owner's library. Its inclusion in the Midnight Hunt Commander set as collector number 97 served to provide players with a functional reprint of this defensive utility spell, maintaining its reputation as a staple for tactical interaction in the Commander format.
The artwork for this version, created by illustrator Yeong-Hao Han, captures the chaotic essence of elemental forces being redirected. Han’s illustration emphasizes the fluid, swirling motion of magic as it forces creatures off the battlefield, reflecting the card's mechanical intent to disrupt an opponent's tempo. The design was received favorably by the player base for its strategic versatility, specifically as a way to punish aggressive strategies while forcing opponents to re-evaluate their board state.
