Where it came from
Aggressive Biomancy was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, a collection specifically designed to integrate high-power, modern-inflected cards into the Commander format. The card explores the Simic color identity—blue and green—focusing on the theme of creature cloning and battlefield scaling that is central to the Ravnica-based Simic Combine faction.
The card features artwork by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who is recognized for her ethereal and detailed contributions to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic. Her design for this piece emphasizes the fluid, rapidly mutating nature of biological manipulation, intended to provide players with a scalable tactical option that rewards them for having a formidable creature already present on the board.
