Where it came from
Ajani's Aid was released in 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt set for Magic: The Gathering, serving as a thematic expansion to the previous Kaladesh release. The card was designed to reflect the rebellion against the Consulate's control on the plane of Kaladesh, specifically highlighting the influence of the leonin planeswalker Ajani Goldmane. Its mechanics emphasize the synergy between enchantment-based strategies and the set's focus on artifacts, grounding the card in the tactical playstyle of the Aether Revolt environment.
The card features artwork by Lake Hurwitz, who aimed to capture the essence of Ajani providing strategic support to the resistance fighters. In the context of the game's broader narrative, the design serves to represent the moment the rebellion secures necessary resources through Ajani's intervention. Upon release, it was regarded as a niche utility card, valued primarily by players building deck themes centered around artifacts and specific enchantment interactions.
