Alley Strangler

Alley Strangler was released in 2022 as part of the Jumpstart 2022 set, a standalone product designed to facilitate quick, accessible gameplay by allowing players to shuffle two thematic packs together. This card specifically appeared in the 'Assassination' deck, a black-aligned theme built around the mechanics of removal and creature elimination. The set was created by Wizards of the Coast as a follow-up to the original Jumpstart, aiming to provide a distinct limited-play experience that felt both nostalgic and fresh for established players.

The card features artwork by illustrator Randy Vargas, who captured a grim, atmospheric scene consistent with the darker aesthetic often found in black-mana themes. The visual design emphasizes the predatory nature of the character, utilizing moody lighting and shadow to ground the creature within a gritty urban setting. As a common card within the set, its design focused on functional utility for the format, and it was generally well-received by players for its straightforward, effective contribution to the assassination-themed playstyle.
