Where it came from
The Aloy, Savior of Meridian card was released as part of the Secret Lair x Horizon Forbidden West drop, a specialized collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Guerrilla Games. It was designed to celebrate the iconic protagonist of the Horizon series, bringing the aesthetic of post-apocalyptic machine-hunting into the mechanics of Magic: The Gathering. The card features custom artwork that captures Aloy in her signature gear, emphasizing the intersection of high-fantasy gaming and tactical card play.
The design of this card aims to mirror the character's resourcefulness and connection to her environment, often utilizing abilities that reflect her in-game reliance on traps and strategic combat. Upon its release, the drop was received as a bridge between two distinct fanbases, appealing both to long-time Magic players and enthusiasts of the Horizon franchise. The artistic direction leaned into the game's unique fusion of tribal culture and advanced technology, resulting in a highly stylized collectible that remains a hallmark of the game's broader Secret Lair series.
