Altar's Reap

Altar's Reap was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the Innistrad expansion, designed to fit the dark, gothic horror thematic of that set. By the time this version was released in the 2016 Conspiracy: Take the Crown set, the card had become a staple utility spell in black decks, valued for its ability to generate card advantage by sacrificing creatures for a cost. The set itself was designed for a draft-based multiplayer experience, focusing on political gameplay and strategic maneuvering, which made this card an efficient choice for players looking to trigger sacrifice synergies.

The artwork for this specific printing was created by Magali Villeneuve, a renowned illustrator known for her clean, expressive, and detailed fantasy style. In this illustration, Villeneuve emphasizes the grim, sacrificial nature of the spell, capturing a moment of dark power exchange. The piece was well-received by the player base for its evocative atmosphere, which effectively communicated the card's function while maintaining the polished, high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the Conspiracy series.
