Where it came from
Ancient Stirrings was originally printed in the Rise of the Eldrazi set in 2010, designed as a green sorcery to help players filter the top of their library for colorless cards. Its utility became a cornerstone of several competitive formats, particularly Modern, where it serves as a key consistency engine for decks revolving around Tron lands or artifacts. The card represents a strategic bridge between the Eldrazi-themed mechanics of its origin and the broader deck-building versatility that defines the green color identity in Magic: The Gathering.
The Masters 25 version, numbered 159, was released in 2018 as part of a celebratory set marking the 25th anniversary of the game. Featuring updated artwork by the illustrator Volkan Baga, this printing sought to honor the game's history by reprinting iconic and high-impact cards with a consistent aesthetic quality. The design for this iteration focuses on the evocative, mystical feeling of uncovering lost magic, a theme that has made the card a favorite among both functional deck-builders and those who appreciate the atmospheric art style prevalent in later sets.
