Angelic Rocket

Angelic Rocket was originally printed as a rare card in the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. Designed as a parody of traditional white-aligned angelic creatures and futuristic space-age technology, the card leaned into the set's silver-bordered spirit of lighthearted, rule-breaking gameplay. The artwork, characterized by its whimsical aesthetic, was produced during a period where Wizards of the Coast experimented with integrating non-traditional, 'joke' card sets into a modernized, premium foil treatment known as The List.

The card was illustrated by Titus Lunter, a prolific artist in the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem who has contributed to various standard and supplemental sets. Lunter aimed to capture a blend of high fantasy and retro-futurism, juxtaposing the traditional concept of an angel with the mechanical imagery of a spacecraft. Upon its release, the card was received primarily as a collector's novelty, appealing to fans of the Un-sets who enjoy the humorous and unconventional design space that these supplemental expansions inhabit.
