Provenance

Where it came from

Angel's Mercy was released in the Magic 2012 core set as a common white instant card. Designed to provide a straightforward defensive option for players, the card serves the fundamental function of gaining life while acting as a tool for recovery during long-form gameplay, typical of the balanced mechanics intended for core set introductory experiences.

The card features artwork by Howard Lyon, a prominent fantasy illustrator known for his evocative and classical approach to character design. Lyon's rendering of the angel reflects the aesthetic goals of the Magic 2012 set, which emphasized clear, accessible visual storytelling. The card was well-received by players for its utility in limited formats, cementing its place as a reliable staple within the white color identity during that rotation.
