Where it came from
Anointer of Valor was released as part of the Double Masters 2022 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set specifically curated to bring powerful and sought-after cards back into circulation. It functions as a white-aligned creature that leverages the 'double strike' keyword, a mechanic that defines aggressive gameplay by allowing a creature to deal damage twice in a single combat step. This card was designed to serve as a high-impact combatant in limited play environments and to provide support for white-based creature decks that rely on overwhelming opponents through sheer offensive pressure.
The illustration for the card was crafted by artist Jason A. Engle, who is known for his atmospheric and heroic fantasy imagery. His approach focuses on the aesthetic of divine intervention, depicting the Anointer of Valor with a sense of radiant power that aligns with the card’s mechanical identity as a buffing or reinforcing unit. Within the context of the 2022 set, the card was received as a solid, reliable rare, valued for its straightforward synergy with equipment and aura-based strategies common in the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
