What it does
Heroic — Whenever you cast a spell that targets Anthousa, up to three target lands you control each become 2/2 Warrior creatures until end of turn. They're still lands.
The warriors she leads can rarely keep pace with her, and neither can the tales.

Where it came from
Anthousa, Setessan Hero was released in 2013 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Theros expansion, specifically appearing as a promotional card. The set was heavily inspired by Greek mythology, focusing on the plane of Theros where gods walk among mortals and heroism is a central theme. Anthousa herself represents the protectors of Setessa, a city-state modeled after Spartan culture, designed to embody the strength and resilience of the region's warriors.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a bold, dynamic style to capture Anthousa mid-battle. The design intent was to showcase her unique ability to turn lands into temporary creature allies, reinforcing the set's mechanics involving enchantment and land-based interaction. Upon release, the promo version became a sought-after piece for players and collectors who favored the distinct aesthetic of the Theros block.
