Provenance

Where it came from

Arahbo, Roar of the World was released in 2017 as the face commander for the Feline Ferocity deck, part of the Commander 2017 annual release for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked a departure from previous years by focusing on tribal synergies rather than color-identity themes, and Arahbo was specifically designed to provide a cohesive strategy for the Cat creature type, which had long lacked a dedicated commander support card.

The card was illustrated by Jaime Jones, who sought to capture the regal and predatory nature of the legendary Avatar. By emphasizing a high-fantasy, lion-like appearance, Jones leaned into the creature's role as a powerful, singular leader. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for successfully elevating the Cat tribe to a viable competitive archetype, while the oversized variant was included in the deck packaging to provide players with a more prominent display piece for their command zone.
