Provenance

Where it came from

The Ark of Hunger is a card featured in the Secrets of Strixhaven set, a thematic expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game released in 2021. The set centers on Strixhaven University, an elite institution of magic in the Multiverse, and the card reflects the dark, arcane research practices found within the university’s deeper, restricted archives.

The visual design for this piece was crafted to evoke a sense of ancient, forbidden power, utilizing imagery consistent with the gothic and academic aesthetic of the Witherbloom and Silverquill colleges. Upon its release, the artwork was praised for its atmospheric tone, helping to solidify the card's place in the game's broader lore regarding the dangerous artifacts hidden beneath the Strixhaven campus.
