Where it came from
Armadillo Cloak was originally released as a common card in the Invasion expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2000. It was designed as an enchantment that provides both a power boost and a life-linking ability, effectively combining combat prowess with survivability. The card became a staple in various green-white deck archetypes, valued for its ability to stabilize a player's life total while threatening an opponent's board state.
The Friday Night Magic 2006 version serves as a promotional reprint, specifically featuring the updated frame design that debuted in the eighth edition of the game. Illustrated by Glen Angus, the artwork captures the creature-enhancing nature of the enchantment with a focus on the tactile, protective aesthetic of the cloak. These promotional foil versions were distributed through local game stores as rewards for tournament participation, cementing the card's status as a classic piece of competitive play history.
