Ashaya, the Awoken World

Ashaya, the Awoken World was originally introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising. Designed as a legendary elemental creature, it reflects the sentient nature of the plane of Zendikar, where the land itself is a living, defensive force. The card mechanics allow it to animate all non-token creatures into forests, emphasizing the deep, symbiotic connection between the world's creatures and its terrain.

The artwork for Ashaya was commissioned from artist Magali Villeneuve, who is celebrated for her evocative fantasy illustrations. Her design captures the imposing, organic scale of a guardian born from stone and root, embodying the set's adventure-focused themes. As part of 'The List'—a rotating selection of cards from throughout Magic's history reprinted in newer booster packs—this version retains the integrity of the original card's design and mechanical utility while appearing in modern distributions.
