Where it came from
Atla Palani, Nest Tender was originally introduced in the Commander 2019 expansion, designed to bring a unique egg-hatching mechanic to the Naya color identity. The card quickly became a fan favorite for its synergistic potential with creature-heavy strategies, leading to its inclusion as a premium reprint in the Double Masters 2022 set. This specific version features updated frame treatments consistent with the aesthetic goals of the Masters series, which aim to provide players with visually distinct versions of popular utility cards.
The illustration for Atla Palani is credited to artist Magali Villeneuve, whose work is celebrated for its evocative lighting and character detail. In this piece, Villeneuve emphasizes the nurturing but fierce nature of the character, placing her in a lush, prehistoric setting that reinforces the card's mechanical focus on dinosaurs and dragon eggs. Upon its release, the card was widely received as a top-tier commander option for players looking to explore high-variance, powerful board states.
