Ayara, Furnace Queen // Ayara, Furnace Queen

Ayara, Furnace Queen was released as part of the March of the Machine Art Series in 2023, a collection celebrating the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This specific card represents a version of the character Ayara, first introduced in the Throne of Eldraine set, reimagined through the narrative lens of the Phyrexian invasion of the multiverse. The art series cards were designed as non-playable promotional items, specifically formatted to showcase the intricate, dark-fantasy illustrations on a clean surface without the typical game text overlaying the artwork.

The illustration for this piece was crafted to emphasize the character's status as a corrupted, Phyrexian-aligned queen of the Fae. The visual direction focuses on the juxtaposition of regal, ethereal elegance with the industrial, biomechanical horror characteristic of the Phyrexian faction. Collectors often seek out these cards for the ability to view the original artist's composition in its entirety, as the art series provides a clearer look at the lighting and character details that are often obscured on standard playable game cards.
