Where it came from
Azusa's Many Journeys was released in the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. The card features a legendary creature from the game's lore, Azusa, recontextualized as a double-faced enchantment card that transforms into a creature as the narrative of the 'journey' unfolds. This design mechanic reflects the set's blending of traditional Japanese-inspired fantasy with a futuristic cyberpunk aesthetic.
The artwork was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist in the Magic: The Gathering community known for her detailed character portraits. The piece was designed to showcase Azusa's evolution during her travels, moving from the meditative nature of her enchantment form to the active, grounded presence of her seeker form. The card was well-received by players for its thematic storytelling and its utility in decks focusing on land-based strategies.
