Where it came from
Bastion of Remembrance originated as a reprint in the 2024 Magic: The Gathering Fallout Commander deck series, specifically featured in the Science! preconstructed deck. The card was originally printed in the Dragons of Tarkir set in 2015, where it drew thematic inspiration from the Mardu Horde’s ancestral reverence. In the Fallout context, the card was re-flavored to align with the post-apocalyptic aesthetic of the wasteland, emphasizing the enduring presence of fallen allies.
The updated illustration for the Fallout release was created by artist L.J. Koh. The design maintains the core mechanical identity of the card while visually translating the concept of a 'Bastion' into the visual language of the Fallout franchise. It was received as a functional and flavorful inclusion for decks focused on token-based strategies, blending the mechanics of death triggers with the bleak, commemorative atmosphere of the source material.
