Provenance

Where it came from

Battering Krasis was released in 2013 as part of the Dragon's Maze expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to represent the Simic Combine, one of the ten Ravnican guilds featured in the set, emphasizing the faction's focus on biomancy and evolution. Its mechanics, specifically the evolve ability, were introduced to illustrate the guild's process of refining organisms through the addition of counters, reflecting the flavor of living experimentation inherent to the plane of Ravnica.

The card's illustration was created by artist Trevor Claxton. In designing the creature, Claxton focused on the amalgamation of various beastly traits, consistent with the Simic aesthetic of melding different species to enhance their combat effectiveness. Upon release, the card was received primarily as a functional limited-environment utility creature, valued by players for its ability to grow stronger as the game progressed while providing a consistent trampling threat on the battlefield.
