Beseech the Mirror

Beseech the Mirror was introduced in the 2023 Magic: The Gathering set Wilds of Eldraine, designed as a powerful tutor effect that embodies the fairy-tale aesthetic of the plane. The card’s design, led by the Wizards of the Coast development team, leans into the thematic trope of making a dark bargain, requiring the player to sacrifice a permanent to search their library for a card to put directly onto the battlefield. This mechanic serves as a high-stakes play that echoes the sinister folkloric bargains common in the stories that inspired the set's development.

The illustrative work for this specific promo variant was created to highlight the darker, more mysterious elements of Eldraine. The artwork focuses on the act of reflection and the cost of power, utilizing the dramatic, high-contrast visual style characteristic of modern Magic: The Gathering promos. Upon its release, the card was widely discussed by players for its efficiency in competitive formats, quickly becoming a staple in decks that utilize sacrifice synergies, and it remains a sought-after piece for those who appreciate both its mechanical utility and its thematic ties to the set's narrative.
