What it does

When Black Cat enters, look at the top nine cards of target opponent's library, exile two of them face down, then put the rest on the bottom of their library in a random order. You may play the exiled cards for as long as they remain exiled. Mana of any type can be spent to cast spells this way.

"Spider-Man, I'm truly sorry for all the bad luck you've been having."

Provenance

Where it came from

The Black Cat, Cunning Thief card, numbered 52, originates from the Upper Deck Marvel's Spider-Man trading card series. This set was designed to chronicle the long-standing history of the wall-crawler and his extensive rogues' gallery, tapping into the enduring appeal of the Spider-Man franchise during a period of renewed interest in character-focused collectible card sets. The card highlights Felicia Hardy, a character who has evolved from a traditional antagonist to a complex anti-hero since her 1979 debut.

The card features artwork capturing the sleek, tactical aesthetic of the character, adhering to the standard design language established for the Marvel's Spider-Man series. By blending iconic comic book imagery with the clear, high-contrast layouts characteristic of professional hobby-market trading cards, the design aimed to appeal both to long-time readers of the source material and hobbyist collectors. Its inclusion in the base set signifies the character's essential role in the broader Spider-Man mythos.
