Blightstep Pathway // Searstep Pathway

The Blightstep Pathway // Searstep Pathway was released as part of the Kaldheim set in early 2021, representing the first cycle of dual-faced land cards to feature this mechanic within the Viking-inspired plane. The design was intended to provide mana flexibility in a high-variance format, allowing players to choose their color access upon playing the land rather than relying on chance later in the game. This dual-sided design allowed Wizards of the Coast to lean into the set's themes of transformation and duality while addressing competitive play needs for reliable mana bases.

The artwork for this specific promotional version features the distinct aesthetic of the Kaldheim showcase treatment, which was illustrated by artists aiming to capture the brutalist and mythic atmosphere of Norse legends. The promotional cards were distributed primarily through Friday Night Magic events and other organized play channels, distinguished by their unique collector number and alternative art style. The reception among the player base was positive, as the card quickly became a staple in various deck archetypes due to its efficiency and utility.
