Where it came from
Blinding Beam was originally released in the 2004 Mirrodin expansion and later featured in the 2013 Modern Masters set. The card was designed for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, functioning as an instant spell that allows players to tap two target creatures, effectively neutralizing them for a turn. It fits within the game's broader mechanical exploration of artifact-themed worlds and white-aligned utility spells that prioritize tactical control over raw power.
The artwork for the Modern Masters iteration was created by artist Christopher Rush. Known for his iconic work on the earliest sets of the game, Rush utilized his distinct illustrative style to capture the intense, blinding essence of the spell. The card was received as a solid, functional piece for Limited formats, where the ability to manage board presence by locking down opposing creatures remains a fundamental strategy for white decks.
