Borborygmos and Fblthp

Borborygmos and Fblthp was released as part of the promotional suite for the 2023 Magic: The Gathering expansion March of the Machine. The card reflects the set's central narrative conceit, which depicted a massive, plane-spanning invasion of the Multiverse by the Phyrexians, forcing unlikely characters to form temporary alliances to defend their homes. This specific iteration captures the humorous and chaotic partnership between the Gruul giant Borborygmos and the perpetually lost homunculus Fblthp, serving as a rare creature card that emphasizes the collaborative spirit of the set's lore.

The artwork for this card was crafted by illustrator Dominik Mayer, who has become a prominent contributor to the game's recent visual identity. Mayer employed his signature high-contrast, angular style to highlight the juxtaposition between the immense, brute-force physique of the cyclops and the tiny, bewildered nature of Fblthp. The design was received favorably by players and collectors, who appreciated both the mechanical synergy of the card's abilities and the comedic relief the duo provided amidst the dark, high-stakes storytelling of the Phyrexian invasion.
