Bottomless Vault

Bottomless Vault was first introduced in the Fifth Edition of Magic: The Gathering, released in 1997. As part of the 'Depletion Land' cycle, the card reflects the game's mid-nineties focus on complex resource management, where players had to balance long-term mana production against the finite utility of the land itself. The design emerged from a period when Wizards of the Coast was experimenting with balancing powerful utility lands against the risk of them eventually exhausting their usefulness.

The artwork for the card was provided by illustrator Mike Kimble.
