Brass Secretary

Brass Secretary was released in 1999 as part of the Urza's Destiny expansion, the final set in the Urza block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. During this period, the game was shifting toward complex artifact-based interactions and mechanical themes centered on the artificer Urza. The card was designed to function as a utility creature that could be cycled or sacrificed to provide card advantage, reflecting the set's broader focus on resource management and the industrial themes of the Urza storyline.

The artwork was illustrated by rk post, a prolific contributor to the game during the late 1990s and early 2000s. His design for the Brass Secretary leans into the high-fantasy steampunk aesthetic prevalent in the set, depicting a mechanical construct with intricate metal plating. While the card is generally regarded as a niche utility piece rather than a competitive staple, it remains a recognized example of the visual style established during the Urza block’s transition into a more polished, digital-influenced art direction.
