Bred for the Hunt

Bred for the Hunt was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair x Final Fantasy Commander set. This card serves as a mechanical reimagining of a classic enchantment, designed to integrate the flavor of the Final Fantasy franchise into the high-strategy environment of the Commander format. The development team focused on translating iconic creature-growth mechanics from the game into a top-down design that rewards aggressive board states, ensuring the card felt both mechanically robust and thematic for fans of the series.

The visual direction for the card centers on capturing the aesthetic essence of Final Fantasy's bestiary, utilizing artwork that reflects the high-fantasy industrialism often found in the franchise's world-building. By blending the distinct artistic style of the game with the standard frame template, the design aims to offer a bridge for players who appreciate the intersection of collectible card gaming and role-playing game history. Upon its release, the card was received primarily as a flavorful utility piece, valued by players for its ability to generate card advantage in creature-heavy decks.
