Bump in the Night

Bump in the Night was originally printed as a common in the Innistrad set in 2011, later appearing in the 2012 Duel Decks: Sorin vs. Tibalt as a core component of Tibalt's aggressive, chaotic deck strategy. The card was designed to embody the flavor of Innistrad’s gothic horror setting, specifically representing the sudden, unsettling terrors that plague the plane's inhabitants. Its mechanic, which allows the player to pay additional mana to return it from the graveyard to the hand, serves to represent a recurring nightmare or a threat that refuses to stay buried.

The artwork for the Duel Decks version retains the original illustration by Volkan Baga, an artist noted for his ability to capture dark, atmospheric fantasy aesthetics. Baga intended to emphasize the jarring, supernatural nature of the card, using stark lighting and shadows to evoke the feeling of a sudden confrontation in the dark.
