Buried Alive

Buried Alive was originally printed as a rare card in the 2001 Odyssey expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to provide a powerful tool for graveyard-based strategies, allowing players to tutor three creature cards from their library directly into their graveyard. Its utility in various competitive formats made it a staple for combo decks that relied on reanimation mechanics, cementing its status as a foundational piece of utility during that era of the game.

The version from the 2003 World Championship Decks was included in the deck piloted by Carlos Romão, who won the 2002 World Championship. These decks were produced by Wizards of the Coast as gold-bordered replicas of the tournament-winning lists, intended to provide players with a way to play with competitive-level decks at a fraction of the cost of original tournament cards. While these cards are not legal for sanctioned tournament play due to their distinct gold borders and unique backs, they remain significant historical documents of professional Magic history and the evolution of deck-building strategies.
