Where it came from
Cait Sith, Fortune Teller was released as part of the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, specifically featured within the 'Final Fantasy Commander' series. The card draws its source material from the iconic character first introduced in the 1997 title Final Fantasy VII, where the creature functions as a whimsical, robotic feline controlled by the game's corporate antagonist, Reeve Tuesti. The design choice for this card reflects the character's dual nature as a fortune teller, blending his chaotic gameplay mechanics with the series' signature tactical card-based aesthetic.
The artistic direction for cards within the Commander series focuses on capturing the distinct personality of characters through stylized illustrations that mirror their original in-game sprites or cinematics. This particular card was intended to provide players with a strategic utility piece, emphasizing the character's role in manipulating luck and future-telling mechanics. It was well-received by fans of the trading card game for its thematic accuracy and ability to represent a complex, multi-layered character within the constraints of a single card design.
