Where it came from
The Campus Guide was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It represents a common artifact creature designed to facilitate the theme of the set, which focuses on the five magically inclined colleges of the Strixhaven university. The card was crafted to serve as a utility piece, providing players with a way to search their libraries for basic land cards while also functioning as a creature on the battlefield.
The illustration was rendered by artist Jason Rainville, who captured the automaton-like aesthetic consistent with the magical constructs found throughout the university's grounds. As a common card, it was received primarily as a functional tool for Limited format play, specifically assisting players in fixing their mana bases during draft or sealed tournaments. Its design reflects the set's broader emphasis on academic exploration and the acquisition of arcane knowledge within the world of Arcavios.
