Where it came from
Captain Sisay was originally released in the 2001 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Invasion, designed to represent the legendary leader of the Weatherlight crew. The character was created to serve as the narrative anchor for the multi-year Weatherlight Saga, embodying the heroic archetype of a sky-ship captain who could recruit allies from across the multiverse to aid in the struggle against the Phyrexian invasion.
The card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, who utilized a cinematic, painterly style to portray Sisay with a commanding presence on the deck of her ship. Mechanically, the card was received as a powerful engine for search-based deck strategies, allowing players to tutor for legendary cards directly into their hand. While the specific card cited as Stardates 22 appears to be a misidentification of the core set release or a non-standard promotional cataloging, the character remains one of the most recognizable figures in the game's history.
