Where it came from
Prosper, Tome-Bound debuted in the Magic: The Gathering set Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, released in July 2021. The card was designed as a thematic centerpiece for the Dungeons & Dragons crossover, capturing the essence of a warlock character who derives power from his pact with an entity from the Nine Hells. Mechanically, the card was crafted to reward players for casting spells from exile, creating a distinct playstyle that emphasizes resource management and tactical sequencing.
The artwork was illustrated by Anna Steinbauer, who utilized a sharp, high-contrast style to evoke the mysterious and slightly sinister nature of a warlock bound to a powerful tome. Upon release, the card was well-received by the Commander community, quickly becoming one of the most popular legendary creatures for its versatility and the engaging, engine-building nature of its ability set, which synergizes naturally with Treasure token production.
