Castle Ardenvale

Castle Ardenvale was originally released in the 2019 Throne of Eldraine expansion, designed to evoke the fairy-tale aesthetic of Arthurian legend mixed with the darker folkloric roots of Grimm’s tales. The card is a utility land that provides a mechanical representation of a fortress capable of generating creature tokens, fitting the set’s focus on enchantment and creature synergy. Its inclusion in the Tales of Middle-earth Commander set serves as a mechanical reprint, utilizing the card's established gameplay role to support new deck builds within the Middle-earth thematic framework.

The artwork for this specific version features the signature stylized framing associated with the various special treatment cards found in the expansion. The design intent for the card was to provide players with a repeatable mana sink during the late game, ensuring that players with a board presence could maintain pressure. Upon its initial release, it was well-received by the competitive community for its versatility and was widely played in white-aligned control and midrange decks due to its ability to generate blockers or attackers without requiring a spell slot.
