Where it came from
The Cat Warrior token was released as part of the Commander 2018 set for Magic: The Gathering, specifically designed to support the 'Nature of the Beast' deck. Wizards of the Coast introduced these tokens to represent the specific creature types generated by spells or abilities within the format, ensuring players had a physical representation of game states during multiplayer matches.
The artwork was created by illustrator Zezhou Chen, who sought to capture the ferocity and agile posture characteristic of feline warriors in high fantasy settings. The illustration features a stylized, armored cat-folk figure, aligning with the aesthetic established for the set. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its clear thematic integration with white-green creature-based strategies.
