Provenance

Where it came from

Cave of Temptation was first introduced as part of the Magic: The Gathering Warhammer 40,000 Commander set, released in 2022. This collaboration integrated the grimdark lore of Games Workshop’s tabletop universe with the mechanics of Wizards of the Coast’s trading card game, reflecting the aesthetic of corrupted imperial worlds or chaotic warp-touched environments central to the setting.

The card features artwork by artist Julian Kok Joon Wen, who was tasked with visualizing a landscape that captured the haunting, otherworldly atmosphere of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The design emphasizes a sense of dread and mystery, utilizing the distinct visual language of the 41st millennium to resonate with both long-time fans of the wargame and players of the card game.
